Chagar Hutang beach was declared as a Turtle Sanctuary in 2005, and the surrounding waters are designated as a marine protected area since 1994. All visitors must obey the Marine Park rules and regulations. Visitors are not allowed to wander around on the nesting beach without supervision from SEATRU staff, as you might accidentally disturb sea turtle nests under incubation.
Any foreign and unnotified landing upon the Chagar Hutang beach is prohibited, to avoid disturbance for sea turtle mothers in the water that will lay their eggs at night.
This is a self-bounded program, where interested visitors can book a date via email at least three days before the selected date as the administration staff is able to inform our field staff to be prepared in welcoming you. The Chagar Hutang bay is closed for any activities (boats, visitors, snorkelers, divers & etc.) at 1.00pm. Any foreign and unnotified landing upon the Chagar Hutang beach is prohibited, to avoid disturbance for sea turtle mothers that will lay their eggs at night.
Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary is open for public (Individual, family, school/universities, club, NGO, corporate agencies and goverment agencies) of all ages with maximum capacity of 30 people at a time.
All expenses to the sanctuary will be bound by the visitor or organizers. Visitors are in need to book their own boat transfers (preferably boat operator from Persatuan Pengusaha dan Pemandu Bot Pelancong Pulau Redang) or recreation centers of respective resorts during their stay. Our field staff will give a briefing on sea turtle conservation and let you experience nest check activity.
We welcome any form of donation to support our long-term sea turtle conservation project at Chagar Hutang!
