Facilities at Chagar Hutang

The research station was re-built in 2006 by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Since then, the quarters have been provided with beds, mattresses & pillows for each volunteer. The station consists of:

A volunteer complex which is the female quarters with attached toilets and shower-rooms.

Male quarters


Two combination of toilets & shower rooms.


Kitchen, dining area and office.

Longhouse (for camps, indoor activities and housing for the Turtle Gallery).

Ranger’s quarters


The buildings are equipped with solar-powered light bulbs. Use of these lights must be kept at a MINIMUM. Charging is limited to cameras and phones only.

Other facilities are:

  1. Snorkeling equipment
  2. Kayak
  3. Stand-up paddle board
  4. Hammock

Most part of Redang Island can be reached by mobile phone, except at Chagar Hutang. Please inform your family about this.
